Our goal is that children with neurodivergence can develop their full potential
Adrián Trejo de la Rosa, born in Ibiza, is a prominent entrepreneur specialized in the design and management of projects in neuroscience and pediatrics. He is currently CEO and co-founder of Xtraordinary People, an innovative project that offers comprehensive care to people with neurodiversity. His career includes managing more than 225 professionals in Synaptia Health Projects and collaboration with renowned institutions such as the Hospital de Sant Pau and the University of Oxford.
When asked about what led him to create Xtraordinary People, Trejo explains that “the initiative was born out of the need to approach neurodiversity from a holistic perspective”. Throughout his career, he has observed that “many people with neurodivergences, such as autism or ADHD, do not receive the comprehensive support they really need”. With Xtraordinary People, their goal is “to ensure that every neurodiverse person has access to adequate diagnosis and treatment, as well as an inclusive environment that allows full development in all areas of their lives”. In the words of Trejo, “our goal is that children with neurodivergence can develop their full potential”.
Trejo also highlights how Xtraordinary People “differs from other approaches in treating neurodiversity.” The project adopts a bio-psycho-social approach, which “not only focuses on the neurodiverse person, but also on their family and educational environment”. To achieve this, they have formed highly specialized multidisciplinary teams that collaborate in the creation of individualized treatment plans. In addition, they pride themselves on providing quick appointment management and access to diagnostic tests, factors that are essential for effective treatment.
Xtraordinary People has opened its first centers in Barcelona, marking the beginning of an ambitious expansion. Trejo shares his enthusiasm for this milestone and announces that his plan is to expand to ten centers across Spain by March 2025, including new locations in Madrid, Mallorca, and other cities. The objective is for Xtraordinary People “to become a national reference in neurodiversity care, with a care model that can be replicated in other regions of the country and beyond”.
Strategic collaborations
In addition to clinical care, Trejo stresses “the importance of research and strategic collaborations within the project”. Xtraordinary People collaborates with renowned institutions, such as the Hospital Sant Pau and the Higher Center for Scientific Research, to develop biotechnology projects focused on neurodiversity. “These collaborations not only allow us to be at the forefront of treatments, but they also contribute significantly to scientific progress in this field”, benefiting both patients and the community in general.
To conclude, Trejo sends a clear message to families and society in general about neurodiversity and insists that “neurodiversity should not be seen only as a deficit, but as a natural variability of the human condition”. “It is essential - according to him - to change perception and eliminate the associated stigma so that each person can achieve their maximum potential in an environment that supports and understands them.” At Xtraordinary People, they are committed to “leading this change, offering comprehensive support and promoting inclusion in all aspects of life.”
