NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER

Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by the onset of recurrent epileptic seizures due to alterations in the electrical activity of the brain.

These seizures can range from brief absences, shakes, to more severe seizures. There are as many symptoms of epileptic seizures as there are regions with different functions in the cerebral cortex, affecting the person's performance in their different dimensions and sometimes limiting their full participation in school, work and social activities.

Epilepsy affects the quality of the people who have it and their families, and a bio-psycho-social approach is essential.

From the Xtraordinary Methodology, in our speech:

We consider epilepsy as a natural neurological variation, adapting the school environment/ to ensure the safety and well-being of students without limiting their active participation in the educational community and promoting their autonomy.

We consider the medical and environmental factors that influence epileptic seizures, working in coordination with families and health professionals to design personalized plans.

We implement safety and emergency response protocols, ensuring that all educational personnel are prepared to respond correctly to an epileptic seizure.

We focus on the student's strengths, such as their capacity for resilience and adaptation, promoting their self-esteem and active participation in school life.

We offer multidisciplinary services, constantly updating ourselves on advances in neuroscience and supporting students from a neuroeducational approach.

We use assistive technology to facilitate learning, offering digital resources that allow us to keep up with the academic pace despite possible absences.

We accompany families and the school environment, ensuring fluid communication between all the actors involved and promoting an inclusive and safe environment.
